News and Tidbits of Reality

The following topics were reported in various main stream
media papers within the last few months. So I thought I'd
share some of the topics that clogged my memory.
- Portland Oregon largely known to the world for its trees
is fast becoming Mecca for indie artists. Why? Usually it
comes down to economics - it's cheaper to live there! A
perfect environment for our starving indie artists. Don't be
surprised to see cutting edge music emerge from Tree
Town in the coming months.
- The latest rage in the land of television is to utilize indie
music for hip television shows i.e. The O.C. Etc. Yes, it's
been done before i.e. Dawson's Creek, but opportunity
may be knocking for chosen / lucky indie artists. What's
the attraction? Indie is cheap and largely obscure. But
artists beware! Protect your royalties, copyrights and
long term musical future. Don't believe me? I can think of
a few famous names who got screwed in pursuit of a fast
buck early in their career.
- Indie Music stores are the rage and Amoeba Records
is leading the pack, especially in L.A. Amoeba is growing
their base and plans to expand their presence online. Word
to the wise Los Angeles, Amoeba is great, but CD Trader
will rock your world too. There are a host of indie music
stores in our communities. Make an effort to shop indie in
2006 where ever you live.
It's Still Hard To Imagine It's hard to believe that we have been with out John Lennon for 25 years. It makes us miss him more and imagine what his music would have achieved if he had lived a full life. We Miss You John Rest in Peace
